We held a community conversation to talk about Indigenous inclusion, led by some of our Indigenous residents. The conversation resulted in a series of actions that can be implemented right away. It's our first act of reconciliation, and we hope to help build bridges between our Indigenous and non-Indigenous neighbours now and in the future. These are the suggested actions:
- Include an Indigenous component to existing events (such as a planned 2019 Winter Carnival)
- Plant native plants and/or medicinal plants in Dovercourt, such as in our community garden
- A monthly article published in our newsletter
- Our Dovercourt history project (to become a book, eventually), to start with a chapter about the original use of this land by Indigenous people.
- Land and Treaty acknowledgement on this website (it is currently on our homepage)
